Most “best broadband in Powai” lists just rank providers by price. That misses the things that actually decide whether you’ll be happy six months in. Here’s what’s worth checking before you commit.
Is the line fiber all the way to your flat?
A lot of “fiber” plans run fiber to the building and then old copper or shared cable to your home. That’s where evening slowdowns come from. Ask whether it’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) — a dedicated line into your flat — or shared. In a building like the ones around Hiranandani Gardens or Powai Lake, where dozens of homes stream at once, a dedicated line is the difference between a smooth 9pm and a buffering one.
Is there a data limit hiding in the plan?
This is the one people miss. Several telco “unlimited” plans have a fair-usage policy (FUP) — after you cross a certain amount of data, your speed drops sharply for the rest of the month. If you work from home, stream in 4K, or have a few people in the house, you’ll hit it. Read the fine print and ask directly: is the speed the same on day 28 as on day 1?
How fast can they actually install?
A connection you can get the same day is worth more than one that’s ₹50 cheaper but takes a week of follow-ups. Ask what the realistic timeline is for your specific building, not the brochure answer.
Can you reach a human when something breaks?
Internet breaks. What matters is what happens next. A national call centre will give you a ticket number. A local team can send someone who knows your building. Before you sign up, call the support number once and see who picks up and how.
Does the bill include what you’d pay for anyway?
If you already pay for SonyLIV, Zee5 or Prime separately, a plan that bundles them in can quietly save you a few hundred rupees a month. Add up what you’re already spending before comparing headline prices.
If you’re in Powai, Smartlink runs fiber straight to the flat, with genuinely unlimited data and same-day setup in most buildings. Check if your building is covered or see the plans.
